Biography
Glenn “Jack” “Butcher” Daugherty, 71, of Washington, IL, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL.
Glenn was born on June 8, 1935 in De Pue, IL, son of Orville Edgar and Dorothy Treve Nave Daugherty. He married Joyce Aubry on June 29, 1957 in Peru, IL. They were later divorced.
Glenn is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Cliff) Pilon of Normal, IL; sons, Mike (Chris) Daugherty of Decatur, IL and Jerry Daugherty and Paul (Jill) Daugherty, all of Peoria; eight grandchildren; and sisters, Bernadine Alsup of Mt. Zion, IL, Kathryn (Don) Floyd of Oswego, IL and Pat Bivens of Peru, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Daugherty; and sisters Betty Daugherty and Clara Spayer.
Glenn was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving from 1955 to 1959 and was a member of the Navy/Marine Club in Peoria Heights, IL. He was an associate for Sam’s Club in Peoria for five years and was the former owner/operator of Glenn’s Barber Shop on North Adams in Peoria for thirteen years. He was also formerly employed at Pabst Blue Ribbon in Peoria Heights for nine years and was an independent carpet layer in Colorado.
Glenn enjoyed cooking, hunting and watching the APBA Power Boat races in his hometown of De Pue. His best hunting experience produced a ten-point buck. He was a fan of old Country and Western music and of John Elway and the Denver Broncos. Glenn enjoyed spending his time at Brogy’s, the Silver Dollar and the Navy/Marine Club.
Glenn enjoyed spending his time watching football and being with his family, friends and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a lucky, generous, fun loving and outgoing man, with a great character and sense of humor.
Glenn wanted to leave all Chicago Cub fans with a little advice: "Be careful what you say each day and use words soft and sweet, because you never know from day to day what words you’ll have to eat." He may have been a little feisty and ornery also.
A Celebration of Glenn’s Life will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2007 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Navy Marine Club in Peoria Heights. According to Glenn’s wishes, his body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the De Pue Men’s Club in support of the APBA Power Boat Races.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Consultants in Peoria.
